University of the Incarnate Word

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is the fourth-largest private university in Texas and awards bachelor’s degrees to more Hispanics than any other non-profit private university in the United States.

UIW serves a student population that reflects the population of South Texas, as 72% of our 7,508 undergraduate and graduate students are racial and ethnic minorities. Thirty percent of our students are first-generation college students, and 95% of our undergraduate students receive some form of financial assistance. UIW is considered a Military-Connected school with 19% of the student population having a connection to the military.

EMERGE allows UIW to expand and deepen our relationships with the City of San Antonio, regional technology partners, the Texas State Legislature, and the US federal government, in order to build capacity in the research area of artificial intelligence with the goal of achieving a world-class innovation hub and research center on our campus in the heart of the historic Brooks City-Base, a San Antonio Innovation Zone. The size and scope of this Center will require a level of external partnerships and resources that currently does not exist at UIW.
